Margate families will soon get some much-needed playground improvements at Royal Palm Park.
During the November 6 meeting, the Margate Commission approved a resolution to accept a $200,000 matching grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Grant Program (FRDAP).
The money will be used to install a new playground, shade canopy, safety surfacing, and other improvements at the park located at Calypso Cove.
Commissioner Antonio Arserio said he is pleased with the plan and that the park will benefit the local neighborhood.
“We spoke with area residents, and they wanted a smaller neighborhood park, so that is what we are giving them,” he said.
Mayor Tommy Ruzzano said, “This will be good for area residents because we are putting in a new playground, removing sand, and replacing it with a new surface.”
Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz said she believed it was time to improve the park.
In another action, the commission approved a resolution to award Titans Protective Coatings a $671,535 contract for labor and materials to complete the repair of the east accelerator tank used in the water treatment process.
Royal Palm Park is located at 6200 Royal Palm Boulevard.
