A man was arrested for allegedly giving a Margate Police officer an overly aggressive handshake during a routine response to a motor vehicle accident.
According to MPD records, the incident began on December 26, near the 3000 block of Toscana Lane West, where officers investigated a crash. During their investigation, they encountered the driver of a vehicle, later identified as Fritz Donatien, 36, of Margate, acting aggressively.
During the investigation, Donatien reportedly recognized one of the responding officers and made repeated hostile remarks, stating, “Fuck you, I remember you,” about prior noise complaints at his residence.
After the vehicle was towed from the scene, officers handed Donatien a routine citation connected to the crash, and he allegedly requested to shake hands with them.
Records show that when Fritz shook hands with the officer he had recognized, he gripped his hand tightly and refused to let go. According to the police report, Fritz also aggressively pulled the officer toward him in a manner that made the officer feel threatened.
The officer noted in the report that he attempted to withdraw his hand but could not until he used his other hand to push the defendant away.
Fritz was immediately placed under arrest for battery of a law enforcement officer and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
