Marion Collins {BSO}
A man was arrested after allegedly carjacking a driver at gunpoint in Fort Lauderdale, then later admitting his involvement while in possession of the victim’s key fob.
According to the Margate Police Department arrest report, the incident began when the suspect, later identified as Marion Collins, 19, of Pompano Beach, allegedly approached the victim sitting in his vehicle and asked for a ride. The victim agreed and drove the man to a residence near the 5600 block of Southwest 11th Street.
Once they arrived, the report indicated that Collins allegedly pulled out a black handgun from his right side, pointed it at the victim, and ordered him to exit the vehicle. The victim told officers that he had stepped out, followed by Collins, who walked around to the driver’s seat, entered the car, and drove off.
Using vehicle tracking services, authorities later located the car parked and unoccupied near the 3000 block of Northwest 5th Court. Not long after, Collins was seen exiting a nearby residence and voluntarily told officers that he wanted to turn himself in “for the car and the gun that was in the car.”
Law enforcement officers discovered the vehicle’s key fob in Collins’s pocket. The fob was attached to a keychain bearing both of the victims’ name.
Collins was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
