Doc Reno’s 8th Annual WingsFest brought people together at the Margate Sports Complex for music, food, and fellowship on the evening of June 14.
Families and friends gathered on the covered field to enjoy dinners from various food trucks. They listened and danced to live music from The STP Projekt, a tribute to the Stone Temple Pilots, Apache Dragon, and Mr. Nice Guy. Students from the School of Rock in Coral Springs participated, and DJ Taerock performed in the food truck area.
Doc Reno also created a watch party for the Florida Panthers.
Presented by JM Lexus, the funds raised from the event go toward Doc Reno’s My Family Matters Foundation. This nonprofit organization raises funds to support families with children battling cancer. The foundation pays bills not covered by insurance.
Doc Reno is the afternoon drive host at Big 105.9, an iHeart Radio station. The Miami iHeart Radio Group supports all the My Family Matters Foundation events, and the city of Margate also provided support for the event, according to Lori Meyers-Gagnon, a foundation board member who assists Doc Reno.
Doc Reno was pleased. “This was a great community event, and people had a great time,” they said.
The Wingsfest event included a chicken wing contest. A panel of celebrity judges selected Sharkey’s Bar & Grill, located in Coral Springs, as having the best-tasting wings. Georgia Boy and Ethel’s Famous Wings won the category of most original wings.
