Dispose of Hazardous Waste and Shred Documents at Margate’s Cleanup Event on April 18

Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste and sensitive documents during the City of Margate’s upcoming collection event on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oriole Park, located at 7055 NW 1st Street.

Hosted by the City of Margate and the Department of Environmental & Engineering Services, the event offers a secure and eco-friendly way to dispose of unwanted chemicals, electronics, paints, and other hazardous items—and to shred personal documents on-site.

What to Expect

All items must be placed in the trunk, hatch, or truck bed for easy, contactless unloading. For safety reasons, event staff will not remove items from the vehicle cabin. Residents are required to remain in their vehicles throughout the process and must present proof of Margate residency upon arrival.

Accepted Household Hazardous Waste Items Include:

• Paint and paint thinners
• Gasoline, oil, and solvents
• Antifreeze and petroleum-based lubricants
• Mercury and mercury-containing devices
• Aerosols, ethylene, and glycol
• Resins, epoxies, and pesticides/herbicides
• Batteries (lead-acid, alkaline, NiCad)
• High-intensity discharge (HID) lamps
• Televisions, computers, and printers
• Propane tanks
• Pool chemicals and cleaners (acidic and basic)
• Light bulbs, including fluorescents and compact fluorescents (CFLs)
• Tires – Maximum of four tires per load; rims must be under 25 inches in diameter
• Container limits – No container may exceed five gallons; maximum of 25 gallons per visit

On-Site Document Shredding

Residents can also securely dispose of sensitive paperwork. Shredding is limited to three standard-size paper boxes (18 x 9 x 12 inches) per vehicle.

Important Reminders:

Household hazardous waste is not collected curbside and should never be placed in regular trash. These city-hosted events and Broward County drop-off sites are the only approved disposal methods.
