Margate celebrated Touch-A-Truck by inviting families to the Sports Complex to see city law enforcement vehicles, fire engines, and utility trucks on April 11.
Parents brought their children to see some of Margate’s most up-to-date police equipment, including a robot police dog named ‘Spot’ and a SWAT vehicle that can be used in almost any law enforcement situation.
“We can use this SWAT truck in a hostage situation, as it is an armored vehicle,” said Detective Casey Claire, adding that the event is good because it allows them to spend time with the public.
Margate also has a police ice cream truck that dispenses free ice cream. “We take this to events in the community,” said Stephen Simmons, Community Engagement Officer.

The Margate Fire Department brought a truck and allowed people to leave painted handprints on it.
“This event is good because residents can meet us and see our trucks and equipment,” said Deputy Fire Chief Danny Rodriguez.
Vice Mayor Anthony Caggiano and Commissioner Arlene Schwartz attended the event. “This is great because it brings the community together for a positive event,” said Caggiano.
April is Autism Acceptance Month, and various educational programs offered their services at the event.

Juliana Eichsteadt, owner of the Lucky Horse Sanctuary, which offers animal-assisted therapy, brought live ponies that people could paint. “We offer equine therapy, and we are developing a program for children with autism,” she said.
