A man apprehended for a dine-and-dash incident at a Margate Denny’s restaurant was discovered to have an outstanding warrant linked to a violent assault and robbery at a McDonald’s earlier this year.
According to the arrest report, on July 2, the Margate Police responded to an alleged dine-and-dash incident at the restaurant at 650 North State Road 7.
Upon arrival, officers were greeted by Denny’s staff, who alleged a man, later identified as Terrance Tyrann Thorpe, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, and another unidentified customer had left before paying their bill of $59.09.
Records show the manager of Denny’s was able to describe Thorpe and the second customer, aiding officers in locating and arresting him a short time later near the 1000 block of North State Road 7.
During a routine background check conducted during the arrest, it was uncovered that Thorpe had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection with a brutal beating and robbery at a McDonald’s located at 1201 State Highway 84 in Fort Lauderdale on April 1.
According to a warrant issued by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Thorpe entered the McDonald’s wearing a black balaclava-style mask and engaged in a verbal altercation with a McDonald’s employee after discovering that mobile orders were no longer accepted.
Reports indicate the victim in the incident, a McDonald’s employee, alleges Thorpe leaped over the service counter, entered the employee-only kitchen area, and tackled them to the ground before delivering multiple closed-fist punches to the victim’s face.
Medical records show the assault left the employee with lacerations and bruises on his lower forehead and around his eyes. The entire incident was captured on the restaurant’s surveillance cameras.
Thorpe was arrested and transported to the Broward County Jail, where he faces charges related to both incidents, including first-degree felony burglary with assault.
