Margate is holding its swearing-in ceremony for three commissioners during the Wednesday, November 20 meeting.
Following contentious elections, Anthony Caggiano, seat 1, Arlene Schwartz, seat 2, and Tommy Ruzzano, seat 4, were re-elected to the commission.
After their oaths, Mayor Ruzzano and Vice-Mayor Schwartz will be honored for their time in those offices. Then, the commissioners will vote on the new mayor and vice-mayor. Margate does not elect its mayor in a city-wide election.
Ruzzano has lived in Margate since 2022. He was elected to the commission in 2012 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020. According to the city website, Ruzzano was appointed by fellow commissioners for one-year terms as mayor in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2023.
Ruzzano loves baseball and coaches the sport in the Margate recreation sports program. He is a general contractor.
Schwartz was first elected to the commission for the 1991-1994 term, then 1997-2004 and 2016-2020. According to the city website, she was re-elected again in 2020. A retired educator, Schwartz is proud that she ran a clean campaign.
Caggiano was first elected to the commission in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. In 2022, he was appointed mayor for a one-year term. He is looking forward to working on the proposed city center project.
The ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. in the commission chamber at Margate City Hall, 5790 Margate Boulevard.
