Publix has announced that Kevin Murphy, who started his career as a front service clerk in Margate in 1984, will become the CEO, effective January 1, 2024.
He will replace current CEO Todd Jones, who is slated to become the grocer’s executive chairman. Jones’s total compensation in 2022 was $3,197,768.
The grocery chain and food giant announced on November 17 on its corporate site.
Kevin Murphy’s rise within Publix has been marked by steady progress. Beginning as a front service clerk, he advanced through various roles, including store manager in 1995, district manager in 2003, and regional director in 2009.
In 2014, he became vice president of the Miami Division, and in 2016, he became Senior Vice President of Retail Operations. He took on the role of President in 2019.
Murphy’s journey highlights Publix’s tradition of promoting talent from within its ranks.
As CEO, he is expected to guide the company toward continued success.
