Not only did Monarch High School have a pair of players in Isabella Castelli and Ciera Taylor compete in the Broward County Athletic Association All-Star Game, but they also saw junior Sarah Phipps win the home run derby on Tuesday.
Taylor also won MVP for team North in their 8-1 win where she played four positions, including catcher, and shined with her glove. Taylor, who started her varsity softball career with Coral Springs Charter and won a State Championship, played her final season with the Knights.
In 25 games this year, she hit .465 with 16 RBIs while Monarch reached the Regional Semifinals. She is set to play softball next year in college at Florida Memorial University.
Castelli pitched a clean sixth inning and also made a stellar play on a comebacker. She had a historic season where she won seven games. In 108.1 innings, the senior struck out 119 hitters and had an ERA of 1.87.
Phipps provided the power this year for Monarch with four home runs for a spot in the home run derby. She also hit .411 while Monarch won 14 games this year.
