A Transportation Security Administration agent from Margate was arrested Wednesday for allegedly hitting a 79-year-old airline passenger at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, court records show.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said they arrested Janiyah Wilson-Robinson, 21, after she intentionally struck the senior by placing the palms of her hands on the woman’s face and pushing her, according to an arrest affidavit.
The victim, a Palm Beach Gardens resident, fell and hit her forehead on the ground, suffering minor bruising, according to BSO. She was treated by medics with an ice pack and declined a trip to the hospital, authorities said.
The victim was at the airport flying JetBlue, according to the affidavit. The document does not state what led up to the alleged crime.
Wilson-Robinson was booked into North Broward Bureau jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older, records show. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
In a statement reported by local media outlets, a TSA spokesperson said the agency was aware of its employee’s arrest.
“TSA holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, and we do not tolerate behavior that violates these standards or the public’s trust,” the statement read. “The individual has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities in their investigation.”
