The WNID wants to hear your opinion on the future of the Woodlands and they’re spending $1,500 to do it.
That’s the cost of renting the country club, and that doesn’t even include the postage and handling costs to mail out invitations to 900 homes.
At the monthly WNID meeting on Thursday, new business included preparing for the upcoming meeting on Monday, May 19. There were no Tamarac City officials present at the meeting, nor were any presidents from five of the sections in attendance.
After being denied LETF money from Police Captain Glassman and the City of Tamarac for a required study, the WNID has been left on its own to fund it before residents can vote on a referendum for any improvements.
“One of the things that is most important is to get a consensus from residents to get funding for a study to get things done,” said Chairman Randy Scott.
Larry Torn agreed, however, he didn’t want to get sidetracked with residents bringing up other matters or details about where we’re going. “The purpose [for the meeting] is for getting a professional,” said Torn. “If the tone of the meeting is people don’t want any changes, then we’ll have coffee and cake and go home early.”
Torn asked Scott to give the audience background into the WNID at the beginning of the meeting on Monday night. Scott who isn’t well-versed on the history of the WNID may have difficulty conveying this information in front of the crowd. I brought up bringing someone forward who could present this information. Someone who knew about NID’s, and who helped create ours, but Larry Torn, who said he wouldn’t be speaking on Monday night, didn’t think anyone, besides the board, should disseminate information about the WNID. Vice Mayor Gomez felt that the board should be the only one who presents, because audience members want to look to the board for direction, and wouldn’t want to see anyone else in control.
All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this important meeting to give their opinions as to what they want to see as far as improvements to the Woodlands and how they would like to fund the study.
The meeting will be held at the Woodlands Country Club on Monday, May 19, 2014, 7: 00 pm.
