On Friday July 8th, Woodlands residents Michael DeLemma, Doug Frens and Ronald Wilson drove around the perimeter of the Woodlands as part of the recently formed Landscape Committee. Both HOA President Patti Fox and resident Douglas Frens have also met with the City of Tamarac regarding this area, a part of the Woodlands which has been neglected for so long. Please read article about our perimeter.
The following is an update from Michael DeLemma.
Just wanted to mention that a few of us took a tour around the entrances and medians around the Woodlands. The survey and information gathered will assist the city in improving and the maintaining of designated areas. These areas will become the responsibility of the city.
What we observed was absolutely shocking and disappointing.
How they could allow a once so beautifully maintained development to become like this is beyond my understanding. The fountain jets do not all work properly and the water looked very dirty. Most of the shrubbery along Woodlands blvd has been infiltrated with weeds, vines, pepper trees, and other plants that do not belong there.
Many of the various varieties of palm trees are either dead, dying, or need trimming and fertilizing. The end caps are a mess, there is a dead tree that needs to be removed, and many trees and plants that are way too old and look it. They need to be removed. White Oak Lane, by the canal area is the same. A dead palm tree was removed a few years ago, a stump remains, it was never replaced. The bushes are littered with weeds, vines etc, and need trimming.
The Rock Island side is also horrible, has no uniformity and is missing shrubs. Holly drive entrance has half-dead untrimmed ficus shrubs, the same situation as the other areas.
So when many of the residents of the Woodlands say that things are fine the way they are, just tell them to take a slow ride around the areas I have mentioned and then I would like to know how they feel about this very sad situation. Maybe they will stop trying to block the progress and work that needs to be done and become part of the solution.
Update: While driving home today I saw the City of Tamarac’s Public Works department finally cleaning up the corner of 64th Ave and Commercial Boulevard. The bad news that after removing the brush, there is a badly deteriorating fence that is exposed on that corner that needs to be fixed by the homeowner.
