Seniors From The North Broward Prep Soccer Teams. {NBP Athletics}

North Broward Prep continued to excel at all levels and had the chance to recognize their seniors and a couple of Eagles who received awards.
Boys soccer started the season 10-0-2 but dropped their next two games before hosting Senior Night on Thursday against Coral Glades. The Eagles won 3-1 and honored Zachary Brown, Vladimir Semenov, Alexandros Papadopoulos, David Silveira, Jamal Osman, David Silveira, Christian Llinas Cantillo, Xavier Croke, Nicolas Boulton, and Lakiv Amchislavskiy. NBP then played to a 1-1 draw against Miami Country Day High School on Friday to close the regular season.
Girls soccer shined this week, winning their games against Westminster Academy and Coral Glades, outscoring their opponents 15-0 in the two games. Isabella Cancelier scored three goals in the first game, while Sofia Cifra Hallberg and Sumayah Brown had a goal and three assists. Kaylee Forcione, Jayda Palumbo, and Sloan Munoz also scored, with Laila Dionisio having two assists.
Anabelle Strati and Eduarda Kroschinsky were then honored against the Jaguars. Head Coach Tricia Amrhein calls both players leaders and important pieces to the teams’ success.
“Anabelle’s resilience through two tough knee injuries her sophomore and junior year showcases her determination, and seeing her shine on the field for her senior year is exciting to watch,” Amrhein said. “Ada, joining us last year as a junior, has seamlessly become an integral part of our overall success.”
The Eagles are now 13-1-2 and will get set for the District Championship, looking to make another run to States.
Boys basketball has been busy to start the new year, competing against a pair of opponents from Georgia. NBP beat Wilson Academy 57-50 before falling 68-51 against Grayson High School on Saturday. The Eagles have gone on to beat American Heritage and St Thomas Aquinas High School but fell to Lake Worth by nine points on January 13.
Next, NBP will play St. John Paul II Academy on Saturday, January 20 at 4:30 p.m. They come in with eight wins but lost 51-47 against NBP last year.
Girls basketball continues their success and had a former player win an award in college with Riley Weiss winning her second Rookie Conference of the Week award. The 2023 graduate averaged 12 points in wins against Columbia and Yale. The current varsity team began the week with a 52-50 victory over Dwyer but then lost 63-45 against Palm Beach Garden High School on Thursday.
The Eagles then moved to 7-8 following a 70-20 loss against Miami Country Day High School and will play West Boca Raton Community High School in their next game on Monday, January 22, at 7 p.m. The Bulls are 4-13 this year and have lost five straight.
“Although our team has faced a lot of change and adversity, I believe we have handled everything well,” Head Coach Tommy Kohlwaies said. “With the tough stretch of games we just played, I believe we are ready and excited to start the playoffs. The girls have worked hard and have bought into the culture we are building.”
The NBP hockey team is set to hold Senior Night on Sunday against Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The Eagles will honor Cole Rosen, Christopher Moore, Cody Zamat, Brendan Singleton, Brady Gentile, Peyton Shen, and Haley Berger. NBP is 17-0 in games against Florida teams and has outscored their opponents 126-14 this year.
Head Coach Jim Gabrione calls them a dun group and marvels at their abilities to overcome obstacles throughout their high school career, taking it to three consecutive State Finals and winning the last two.
“They’ve made themselves part of the elite classes that came through NBP and had lots of great results to show for it,” Gabrione said. “Happy I was able to be their coach all four years and build relationships with all of them. NBP is lucky to have them.”
