Monarch High School Hosts Senior Night and Postseason Games

Monarch High School athletics continued this week, with teams holding senior nights and competing in the postseason.

The boys soccer team made a run to the District Final and then qualified for Regionals. After winning the last two championships, the Knights lost 2-0, allowing, allowing a pair of goals in overtime.

“Getting to regionals is an honor, and it will be an amazing test to see if we can upset a team as talented as Cypress Bay,” Head Coach Eric Swickle said. Losing in the District Final was heartbreaking for the seniors, and now getting a chance to keep playing is exciting for everyone.”

Monarch fell 1-0 against Cypress Bay High School and finished the season 10-8-4.

The boys basketball team held Senior Night on Thursday and beat Hollywood Hills High School 60-56. The Knights honored Sanjay Dhanraj, Jerome Blangor, Maxwell Young, and Cody Dinnall before recording their ninth win of the season. The four seniors combined for 50 of the team’s 60 points before falling 58-34 against Boca Raton Community High School in the District quarterfinal and finished the season 9-11.

The girls basketball team also honored their seniors and had a rough year where they went 1-13 in the regular season. They lost 58-14 against Spanish River Community High School in the postseason and finished 1-14.

The girls wrestling team finished shined in the BCAA Championship, with Rosie Kleine, Abigail Moyer, and Payton Moyer all coming in the first place.

“I’m very proud of the girls becoming the first girl champions in Broward County,” Head Coach Troy Yarbrough said. “Rosie’s older brother Liam Kleine placed 3rd in this tournament two years ago. It’s a nice feeling to see her follow through her brother’s footsteps. Liam is now serving in the US Marines.”

“Abigail and Rosie are striving to qualify for the state tournament, as Payton achieved last year,” Head Coach Troy Yarbrough said.” I’m excited to see how far these girls can go. They keep getting better every day.”

Semaj McClain won a championship in Districts, while Tyler Metellus placed third, and Eric Mattos and Ethan Pierce came in fourth place. Aiden Franco and Maycol Flores also placed fifth. For the girls., Rosie Kleine So and Payton Moyer Jr won District Championships. 

Monarch also had one of the stars, and the All-American has received offers committed to the 2025 All-American Bowl in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Brady played his first two years of varsity football with Monarch High School and had 43 passes for 864 yards and six touchdowns. He then finished his sophomore year with 70 receptions and 1,392 yards, along with ten touchdowns, to lead the Knights to their second straight District Championship and first Regional Title in school history.
