A Margate man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence after beating a woman and threatening to break her legs with a crowbar.
On April 16, the Margate Police Department responded to a domestic assault with an injury.
According to the police report, when officers arrived, they spoke to the victim, who told them that her ex-boyfriend, later identified as Cory Justin Swisher, 27, of Margate, had come to her residence to retrieve some belongings, assaulted her, threatened to badly injure her, and fled the scene.
The victim told officers that while Swisher was at her home, a verbal argument began, and he took her phone and left.
The report states an hour later, Swisher returned to the residence, poured soda on the victim’s head, and began slapping her several times with his open hand, injuring her face, head, torso, and hips.
According to the arrest report, Swisher raised a crowbar above his head and began swinging it as he threatened to break the victim’s legs and ankles, only stopping his attack once the victim pleaded for mercy.
The report states the victim suffered minor bruising on her left shoulder and left hip from the incident, photos were taken of her injuries, and she agreed to provide a sworn taped statement.
Four days later, on April 20, Swisher was arrested near the 5500 block of Southwest 7th Street and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
