Margate has a new mayor and vice mayor.
During the November 25 meeting, the commission voted to appoint Antonio Arserio as the mayor and Anthony Caggiano as vice mayor.
Arserio had been serving as vice mayor, and Caggiano was a commissioner. Arlene Schwartz has been serving as mayor and will now serve as a commissioner. Each November, the commission votes to select a mayor and vice mayor for a one-year term.
“I am honored to have been selected as mayor,” said Arserio.
He was elected to the Margate City Commission in November 2018 and re-elected for a second term on November 8, 2022. Arserio is a licensed real estate broker and a former member of the city’s planning and zoning board. He has earned an FRA-RP designation from the Florida Redevelopment Association as a redevelopment professional.Â
Arserio currently serves on the Florida League of Cities and Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee, according to city information. Â
Caggiano was elected to the commission in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. In 2022, he was appointed mayor for a one-year term. A Margate resident since 2003, Caggiano has served on the planning and zoning board. He was a board member of the Margate Chamber of Commerce from 2009 to 2014, according to city information.
