On the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, a group of volunteers gathers at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Margate to distribute free bags of food to families and individuals.
The recipients are not questioned about their circumstances; anyone needing food will receive a bag. Farm Share and Feeding South Florida provide the food, and according to Cokesbury member Sheirnette Shaw, co-chair of the program, Publix and Aldi also make donations.
Since 2021, Cokesbury has provided nutritious and high-quality food, including meat, fish, vegetables, and bread, and on Wednesday, included large containers of squash, cucumbers, cabbage, and eggplants.
Just before the distribution began, volunteers packed bags that would provide food for families in the community.
“We do this because people in the community have needs, and we want to help them,” said Shaw.
The next distribution is on January 22, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Cokesbury Church is located at 1801 NW 65th Avenue in Margate.
