Major landscaping improvements are coming to Margate Boulevard.
During the June 12 Margate CRA meeting, a representative from Chen Moore and Associates, the company that completed the design work, made a presentation on plans of the final design development plans for the Margate Boulevard crosswalk and landscape improvements project.
The proposed work will take place along Margate Boulevard from State Road 7 to East River Drive and Northwest 58th Avenue from Park Drive to one half block northeast of Margate Boulevard.
This includes sidewalk and crosswalk reconstruction, which will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Extensive landscaping and lighting along the roadway will also be installed, and new sidewalks will be installed.
The total cost for the construction work is expected to be around $1.1 million.
Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz said she would have liked to have seen more information on the project before the meeting.
“I love that we are spending the money to spruce up the city. I want people who live in Margate to look at this and be proud of what we are doing for the city,” Commissioner Anthony Caggiano.
After the presentation, the commission agreed to direct city staff to prepare bid documents for interested construction companies.
Also, the CRA approved $14,000 for a hospitality tent with refreshments for the Margate Police Department’s National Night Out Against Crime, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, at the Sports Complex.
