Two community organizations are collaborating to organize an event to help ensure that children are well-prepared for the upcoming school year.
The Back-to-School Bash featuring Elmo will take place on August 5 at noon at the Margate Sports Complex at 1695 Banks Road.
Organized by two faith-based organizations, the Gideons Motorcycle Club and the Hope Floats Movement, the Back-to-School Bash event aims to lend a helping hand to families in need while creating an afternoon of family-friendly fun.
Anagrace Mendes, the Secretary/Lady of Gideons Motorcycle club and the founder of Hope Floats Movement tells Margate Talk the event is about helping those in need in anticipation of the school year.
“I wanted to help more families that were struggling,” Mendes said.
According to Mendes, in addition to a special visit from Elmo, this year’s event will also feature event organizers giving away backpacks filled with essential school supplies, free haircuts provided by volunteer Barbers, exclusive giveaways, food trucks, and live entertainment.
Mendes also shares that the inspiration behind helping children in need stems from herself being a longtime single mom before remarrying and knowing just how hard times can be, especially around the beginning of a school year when many items are needed and expenses rise.
“I received help from churches and nonprofits with food, clothing,” Mendes said, adding, “I also said when I am in a better place, I wanted to give back.”
