Gideons Motorcycle Club is hosting a back-to-school backpack and supply giveaway on Sunday, July 31.
Gideons teams up with Fish Mending Nets and the Sister Edma Foundation, Corp, two local organizations that provide necessities for senior citizens and children.
The Margate Police Department will also help with operations.
The backpack giveaway includes an ice cream truck, cotton candy, and music, according to Anagrace Mendes, the event planner.
Alex Silva, international club president, said that Gideons aims to give out 2,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, and other materials to children of all age groups in need.
“This is the time to invest in our children, to show them that it is possible to help, love, and love others,” he said.
Silva said that besides giving children the necessary supplies, he hopes the community and children know that the backpacks and contributions were made with a lot of love.
A Christian nonprofit organization, Gideons Motorcycle Club was created in 2011 in Brazil and recently relocated to Margate from Pompano Beach.
Gideons primarily works with homeless people. Every third Saturday of the month, they donate food, water, and clothing, according to Silva.
They are working on getting a bus for a project called “Take a Shower and Wash Your Soul,” where they will provide homeless people with bathing and hygienic needs.
The back-to-school backpack and supply giveaway is held from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Margate Sports Complex, located at 1695 Banks Road.
