Broward County Animal Care is throwing a paw-some summer party, and you’re invited.
The shelter’s second annual Summer Bash kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, and promises a day of free adoptions, fun activities, and a visit from a nationally known animal expert.
Dr. Susan Kelleher — better known as “Dr. K” from Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER on National Geographic and Disney+ — will be the event’s special guest. Known for her compassionate care of exotic pets like parrots, snakes, and rabbits, Dr. K brings her expertise and energy to Broward Animal Care’s Fort Lauderdale campus at 2400 SW 42nd Street.
“We are incredibly honored to have Dr. Kelleher join us for this special event,” said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care. “Her presence underscores the importance of animal wellness and the life-changing impact of pet adoption.”
The free, family-friendly event includes food trucks, behind-the-scenes tours of the shelter, and opportunities to meet and adopt dogs and cats looking for their forever homes. While adoption fees are waived, a $25 pet registration fee still applies. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped — ready to head home with a loving family.
“Adoption events like Summer Bash remind us how powerful the human-animal bond can be,” said Dr. Kelleher. “It’s an honor to support a cause that brings love, healing, and second chances to so many pets and families.”
Whether you’re looking to add a furry friend to your life or just enjoy a summer outing with the kids, all are welcome. To view adoptable pets in advance, visit PetAdoptions.Broward.org, or get more information at Broward.org/Animal or by emailing animalcare@broward.org.
