Margate residents and visitors will have another appetizing event to look forward to.
Doc Reno’s Bacon, Beer, and BBQ Festival will be held on Sunday, September 1, at the Margate Sports Complex.
During the June 12 meeting, the Margate CRA entered into an agreement with the My Family Matters Foundation to host the event.
According to Reno of Big 105.9 and iHeartRadio, it will be a bacon and BBQ competition with free admission and parking. There will be live music, including performances by students from the School of Rock. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The competition winners will be announced before the headline band performs.
The Bacon, Beer, and BBQ event, which was previously hosted in Pompano Beach six times, is relocating. The Foundation organized Doc Reno’s WingsFest on June 15 and Doc Reno’s Meatball Mania on March 9 at the Sports Complex, both of which aim to raise money for the Foundation.
A non-profit organization, My Family Matters offers help to families with children facing cancer. It provides assistance with travel and essential items such as food, utilities, and rent.
As Reno shared with the commission, “I survived cancer, and I know what these families are going through. I want to help these families,” he said. “I put on food and music festivals to raise money.”
According to Reno, he moved this festival to Margate because of his positive experiences with the other two festivals at the sports complex. “I love Margate, and I consider it my hometown in Florida. I will do anything to help put the word out about the festival,” said Reno.
Mayor Tommy Ruzzano supported the agreement. “I think what you do is incredible, and I appreciate the time you are putting into the event,” he said.
Under the agreement, My Family Matters will provide advertising space on iHeartRadio media outlets, including 200 recorded on-air promotions on Big 105.9, to run from August 5 through September 1. The space will also include digital advertising, e-blasts, and social media. According to city information, the total advertising value will be $74,000.
Margate will provide a covered sports field, mobile stage, police and fire detail, and parks and recreation personnel to run the event. According to city information, the estimated cost will be $8,546.
