Kayden DeCuba was honored as Margate’s Athlete of the Month during the October 16 commission meeting.
He has succeeded in a 12-and-under central league baseball team, the Trash Pandas, in the Margate baseball league.
DeCuba, 12, received a plaque from Mayor Tommy Ruzzano, who complimented his efforts. “He has been playing for three years and has grown from a shy newcomer to a confident player who can play any position and enjoys pitching. Kayden is supportive of his teammates.”
After the presentation, DeCuba said, “My mom is my number one fan, and my coaches have helped me, and my teammates have supported me.”
Ruzzano encouraged young people in Margate to participate in the city’s youth athletics.
Nominated by his mother, Paula Van Hoof, his coach, DeCuba plays every position well and has become a good pitcher. “He often encourages players who aren’t doing well.”
Playing with the Trash Pandas, Kayden has been playing with the City of Margate for three years.
Van Hoof said a coach can nominate a player who is doing well or improving, and then the coaches in the league decide the athlete who will be honored as player of the month.
