Michael McGrath is considered one of the most outstanding track and field athletes in the history of North Broward Prep. He has recently confirmed that he will pursue his athletic career at Kentucky Christian University starting this fall.
Michael says he is elated and motivated about his decision and plans to hit the ground running next year in college.
‘The majority of my excitement comes from the passion the KCU coaching staff have for their throws program,” McGrath said. “Throughout my college recruitment, it felt like most schools didn’t put much effort into their throws program the way KCU does.”
Michael always wanted to play football in college. Like his older sister, Megan McGrath, who switched from softball to beach volleyball at Florida Atlantic University, Michael focused on track and field.
In the sixth grade, he participated in a variety of events. In high school, he started with the 200 meters and competed in the shot put and discus.
A year ago, McGrath started to throw the javelin and was a Regional Championship, then placed seventh in States this year. He plans to do that in college after working exceptionally well with coaches John Garrish and Noah Rosado.
“They take pride in fostering excellence in every athlete outside the game,” McGrath added. “I am grateful to have been under these coaches for all four of my high school years and consider them not just coaches but friends.”
Also, Michael is excited to work with his new coaches this fall.
“Coach Tim Veach and Coach Todd Eastham have so much enthusiasm in what they do I could feel it through the phone,” he said. “They made me feel welcome, wanted, and excited about growing with them. This made KCU stand above the rest in my decision process.”
