The northwest corner of the Woodlands on Commercial Boulevard and NW 64th Avenue is a busy one.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of cars, travel through this intersection each day and get to see a side of our community that doesn’t look its best. This corner borders our homes in Section 2, and there are a few residents who can’t find someone who will take ownership of it and clean it up. This area has been continuously neglected and is filled with trash and weeds that sit there every day.
A Section 2 resident brought this area up at last month’s “Neighborhood Meeting.” Jennifer Bramley, Community Development Director, said she would send someone out to take a look, and someone did come by. However, the code inspector told residents that it’s not the city’s property; it’s the Woodlands’ job to maintain it. The area borders the City of Lauderhill, which has done a good job maintaining the other side of the street, but Lauderhill said this is Tamarac’s property to maintain.
If the city says it belongs to the Woodlands, then the WHOA needs to maintain this area. Our dues cover landscaping and maintenance of all common areas, excluding the golf courses. Let’s quit passing the buck because this area isn’t going to mow itself. If our board thinks the city should maintain it, then they need to work that out with the city – later. Right now, we need to keep our community properly maintained to make it look as inviting as possible. Not only for passerby’s but for those that want to stay around a bit longer here.
