Margate Mayor Antonio V. Arserio has endorsed Cynthia Dominique in the race for Broward County School Board District 7, saying she will provide Margate families with a stronger voice in decisions affecting local schools.
With Broward County School Board District 7 member Nora Rupert not seeking reelection, Dominique and Rochelle “Shelly” Soffer are competing for the seat representing Coconut Creek, Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Lighthouse Point, Margate and Pompano Beach.
Arserio, who was first elected to the Margate City Commission in 2018 and has served as mayor in 2022 and 2026, praised Dominique’s record of public service and community involvement.
“Cynthia has dedicated more than 10 years to volunteering in our schools, served our country as a 23-year Army veteran and combat nurse, and continues to serve our community as a nurse practitioner,” Arserio said. “She has proven that she leads with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to putting children first.”
Arserio also credited Dominique with working alongside the city to help preserve Margate’s School Resource Officer program.
“When our School Resource Officers were at risk, Cynthia worked with me to help ensure they remained in our schools,” Arserio said. “She understands that safe schools are essential to student success.”
Dominique, a Margate resident and mother with children attending Margate public schools, said her personal experience gives her insight into the needs of local families.
“For too long, Margate has been overlooked,” Arserio said. “Having someone who lives here, raises her family here, and is personally invested in our schools gives me confidence that Margate will finally have the representation it deserves on the Broward School Board.”
Dominique said she was honored to receive Arserio’s endorsement.
“I am grateful for Mayor Arserio’s support and look forward to continuing to serve our students, parents and teachers,” Dominique said. “Together, we can strengthen our schools and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
Dominique and Soffer will appear on the ballot for the Broward County School Board District 7 seat in the upcoming election. The district includes Coconut Creek, Deerfield Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Lighthouse Point, Margate and Pompano Beach.
