In December, the Woodlands lost two notable neighbors that are gone but will never be forgotten from our lives.
Gloria Klar
Gloria who was an exceptionally talented woman with many diverse interests, from art, to golf, to bridge, to friends and family passed peacefully shortly before her 95th birthday.
A noted sculptor and teacher of art. She traveled extensively with her husband Henry, whom they were married for over 63 years, for many years as Art Director on cruise ships. Originally from Brooklyn, NY she brought up her three sons Lester, Ronald, and Steven on Long Island. Gloria worked with her husband to help spur Long Island’s post-World War II housing boom to veterans.
She lived here in the Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac for over 36 years. You may have remembered her home on Woodlands Boulevard with the beautiful sculptures in front. She had her own art studio in her home as well. She spent her final years at Forest Trace.
On December 21st a funeral was held at Star of David, and internment at Mount Ararat in NY.
In addition to her sons she is survived by two daughter-in-laws’ Deborah and Kathleen, three grandchildren Laura, Jennifer and Ashton and her great grand daughter Juliet. Donations may be made to Women’s American ORT or UJA federation of NY.
Douglas Franklin Long
On December 2, 2014 we lost our neighbor Doug Long who lived in Section One. He was born on November 8, 1944 and was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October.
Doug was born in Detroit, Michigan and was the owner of Your-Accountant which specialized in Tax, Accounting and Management Advisory Services for individuals and small businesses. He earned both his undergraduate and his law degree from Western Michigan University and received his Masters in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
Doug is the husband of Karen, father of Stephanie (Adam), Gillian (Zack), Alex (Christen) and Elizabeth. Grandfather of Ava, Casey, Addison, Wesley, Crosby and James (born on his birthday November 8, 2014) Brother of Patricia, Nancy, Alan and Michael (deceased). Doug will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends.
Doug loved the Woodlands Country Club and he was a registered agent for the District. He believed in the benefits of the Woodlands Neighborhood Improvement District, attending all of the meetings hoping to see it thrive.
A Memorial Service was held on December 6, at the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale which was attended by his family and so many of his friends and neighbors.
