With the postseason coming up soon, North Broward Prep’s varsity and middle school teams ran well in their latest race on Thursday.
The boys’ varsity team started by finishing in eighth place out of 24 schools in the Flying L Alumni Last Chance Meet, with Michael McGrath winning first place in the javelin and placing third in the discus. Nathanael Coupet also finished third in the javelin, while Graham Mathieu, Wills Gillis, and Tate Rowland picked up points for NBP.
The girls’ team finished tenth overall, highlighted by a pair of third-place finishes from Nina Sanguino in the long and triple jumps. Ella Munoz and Briley Rebello finished fourth overall, with Masidon Pavon in sixth in the 3200 meters.
The varsity team then competed in the Palm League Championship. Both teams placed in third, highlighted by Zach Vidal, Anthony Mestre, Christopher Baker, and Damisi Faluyi winning their 4 x 100 relay. McGrath won again, finishing first in the Discus and Javelin, while Caleb Makovsky, Armando Suarez, Rowland, Nico Quintero, Grant Depenbrock, and Mathieu continued to shine.
Sanguino set a school record in the long jump, with Alexa Schwartz setting a personal best and winning the javelin. She also placed second in the shot put and finished fifth in the discus. Munoz, Mariana Lander, and Ivory Edgecomb all finished in the top five, along with all six relay teams from the boys and girls.
The middle school team competed in the Gold Coast Middle School Conference Meet. Adrian Cue had the top result for the boys’ team, finishing third in the 100 hurdles and triple jump. He also had a sixth-place finish in the 200 hurdles and was 12th in the long jump. Lucas Wiley also shined for NBP, coming in sixth in 800 and 1600 meters. Matthew Bennett also had a top-ten finish, placing ninth in the 100 hurdles and then 11th in the 200 hurdles.
The girls’ team was led by Sloan Munoz, who finished fourth in the triple jump, sixth in the long jump, and 15th in the 100 meters. Briley Rebello also came in fourth place in the 800 meters and tenth in the 400 meters, while Madison Pavon placed in the top eight in two events, including sixth in the 1600 meters. Gianna Barack and Ava Kravitz also competed for NBP and had strong results.
