The Monarch High School softball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 9-4 win over J.P. Taravella on Thursday.

Faith Linderman recorded a two-run single in the second, and Sarah Phipps had an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch to take a 4-0 lead. JPT responded with three runs to cut the lead to one, and while both teams responded with runs, Monarch scored four straight, with Camryn Piskun driving one in.

Foster also had an RBI single layer in the game and also scored on a passed ball, and Phipps brought one in with a single. On the mound, Elena Ramirez picked up the win, going 5.1 innings before Mia Macaione closed the game with three more strikeouts.

“We’re definitely playing a tough schedule as we always do,” said Head Coach Kenny Forbes. “We see the light at the end of the tunnel. Every year I stress to the team we are playing a series of practice games preparing for postseason play. We want to peak at District Playoffs. I truly believe we will get there.”

Monarch fell in their final game before spring break on Monday and will play Fort Lauderdale High School in their next game on March 29th at 6:30 p.m. The Flying L’s are 3-3 this year and beat Monarch 6-2 in their only meeting last year.
