Pickleball has arrived in Margate, and residents have the opportunity to learn the popular game.
Csilla Constandache and her husband, Peter, taught tennis in Margate for about ten years through their Game, Set, Match Tennis & Pickleball company. After partnering with the city to provide tennis instruction, they have begun offering pickleball lessons.
According to Csilla, pickleball is becoming more popular, and most people can play it. “It is an easier game than tennis. The court is smaller, and there is less running. Older people and those who are less athletic can learn the sport,” she said.
Csilla was ranked third as a tennis player in Romania at age 14, playing the National Juniors U18. After a knee injury ended her competitive career, she became a coach and has trained some top-notch tennis players, including her children, who are top players. “We offer training and lessons for all players and all abilities,” she said.
According to Peter, pickleball is an excellent sport for people who are not the most competitive athletes but want to engage in physical activity. “There is no age limit, and anyone can play,” he said.
New pickleball courts have been installed at Firefighters Park in Margate, located at 2500 Rock Island Road, and more people are learning the game.
Their children, Sebastian, 15, and Melanie, 13, have played well at national and international competitions and were honored during the January 31 Margate Commission meeting.
