Calypso Cove {City of Margate}
As part of the graduation celebration for students who have completed the 5th and 8th grades or are members of Margate sports teams, they will receive free tickets to the Calypso Cove water park.
The Margate Commission has announced its commitment to awarding 4,000 passes to the students during a meeting held on May 1st.
According to Mayor Tommy Ruzzano, the 4,000 passes would be a loss leader and a revenue finder because parents who bring their children to the park with the free passes would pay the $6 admission and see the renovated water park.
“This will be a grand reopening of the park. Kids cannot go there by themselves, so the cost of this would be the cost of the passes. A child will need someone to bring them to the park, and we will be able to showcase the park,” said Ruzzano from the dais.
Commissioner Anthony Caggiano was enthusiastic about the free passes as a loss leader to encourage families to see the new water park. Commissioner Antonio Arserio said parents might buy an adult beverage and concessions.
Then, city manager Cale Curtis mentioned that an adult must accompany children 12 and under but not those over age 12. This generated some concern among the commissioners. Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz said an adult should accompany children under age 16. Caggiano also said the age should be raised.
The commission agreed to offer free passes to children. However, students must be accompanied by a paying adult. Additionally, the commission is considering raising the age limit for unaccompanied visits, a decision that will be discussed in an upcoming meeting.
Residents over age five are charged $6 to use the water park, and non-residents pay $12. Residents aged two to four pay $2, and non-residents pay $5. Residents and non-residents under age two are free.
