Margate Unveils State-of-the-Art Fire Station 58 with Hose Uncoupling Ceremony, Tours, and Dinner

The City of Margate celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 58 on October 30 with a hose uncoupling ceremony, presentations from fire rescue leaders, and a full dinner.

According to Margate Fire Chief Robert Lorenzo, the new station at 600 Rock Island Road includes the latest firefighting technology and is a tremendous improvement over the demolished former station.

The facility, which is 8,700 square feet and includes nine dormitory rooms, four bathrooms, a full-size kitchen, a lounge area for the firefighters, a weight room, and a storage area, cost about $5 million to build, according to Lorenzo.

“We are glad to have this new station; we have needed it for a long time,” said Lorenzo, adding that they will use it for the next 50 years.

After the ceremony, the fire rescue members, city leaders, and family sat down for a full buffet dinner. Tours were offered so people could see the areas where firefighters live, work, exercise, and relax. They could also see the station’s trucks.

Commissioner Anthony Caggiano remembered how inadequate the old station was. “I visited the station and saw it was in horrible condition, and I supported the construction of a new station. I believe if we care for our firefighters and keep them healthy, they will protect us,” said Caggiano.

Mayor Tommy Ruzzano is proud of the new station. “This new station is state of the art and is something our firefighters have needed,” he said.

According to State Rep Christine Hunschofsky, the city needed a new station so the firefighters can do their job.
