One of Brinc’s products is the responder drone, engineered to reach 911 calls in under 70 seconds.
The Margate Police Department is set to receive new drones, but it must first relinquish its current drones to the State of Florida.
Those drones were made in China, and Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration prohibits municipalities from using Chinese drones.
During the September 4 meeting, the commission agreed to authorize the submission of a drone replacement program financial assistance application to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement requesting $75,000 to pay for three drones.
Commissioner Anthony Caggiano said replacing the drones may be inconvenient, but he understands the situation. “We have some sensitive properties in Margate, so I understand the concern,” he said.
According to BRINC Technology, which produces drones for law enforcement, drones can be used by first responders, search and rescue, active shooters, barricaded suspects, and other crises.
According to the company website, drones can arrive at a situation before first responders and see what is happening.
