The Margate Police Department will receive new surveillance equipment to enhance safety within the Community Redevelopment Agency.
During the June 11 meeting, the board approved the purchase of various devices for a total of $174,140. The CRA’s mission includes ensuring safe, secure, and thriving neighborhoods, and a key part of this mission is addressing public safety concerns.
The surveillance equipment would include high-resolution cameras, monitoring systems, and automated license plate readers. This equipment would be used to deter crime, gather evidence, and enhance the community’s perception of safety. Six additional Flock LPR cameras would be installed within the CRA limits. The cost for the cameras would include an initial fee of $6,500 and a recurring cost of $18,000. A mobile surveillance trailer would enable the deployment of surveillance cameras in various areas, depending on crime trends, according to a statement from Chief Michael Palma.
Additionally, community policing innovations will enhance traffic flow in the area. Control devices included are necessary to allow officers to direct traffic in a safe and orderly manner. A trailer is needed to transport these items, according to Palma.
During the meeting, Executive Director Cale Curtis informed the board that he had approved an additional $49,000 to purchase more camera equipment.
The item was approved with little discussion by board members.
