The Margate Commission approved two major contracts during the December 4 meeting.
It approved a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises Inc. to acquire body-worn cameras, new drone equipment, upgraded tasers, and improved software for the police department at a cost not exceeding $2.2 million.
According to Major Michael Druzbik, tasers and drones have undergone substantial technological improvements. Better pricing is available if the city agrees to the contract now. The new drones will replace the ones the city can no longer use because of the law prohibiting Chinese-manufactured drones, according to Druzbik.
The commission also approved a contract with FG Construction for a total of not exceeding $1.7 million for NW 8th Street Roadway reconstruction.
