Margate’s Fire Station 98 will undergo renovation and improvements.
During their March 6 meeting, the commission awarded the project to Llorens Contracting at a cost not exceeding $247,256.
According to a city report, the fire station bathrooms need updates to meet current standards of function and comfort. Because of extensive use and increasing accessibility expectations, the existing facilities are considered inadequate for the needs of the firefighters.
Another critical upgrade involves the hardening of the structure, primarily by installing two impact doors. These doors are essential for increasing the station’s resilience against severe weather and impact to ensure the safety of people and equipment in the building. Also, an exterior perimeter camera system will be installed outside the fire station to enhance security and provide real-time surveillance, which is, at times, another layer of protection, according to the report.
The kitchen facilities will be updated. Modernizing the kitchen is necessary to meet the needs of fire service personnel. The goal is to meet current health and safety standards, withstand daily use, and incorporate energy-efficient appliances. The station was built in 1997 and includes 9,452 square feet and three bays to house fire equipment, according to the report.
Also, during the meeting, the commission approved a temporary use permit for Hildebrand Amusement Rides for permission to hold “A Spring Fair” at 1000 North State Road 7 from March 15 through March 31.
According to city information, the fair will include traditional rides such as Ferris wheels, carousels, bumper cars, the Cyclone, the Drop Tower, Music Express, and the Big Swing Ride. Carnival games, entertainment, and food such as corn dogs, funnel cakes, and cotton candy will also be available.
