A Margate man was arrested after a months-long investigation revealed he uploaded dozens of child sexual abuse files through the Kik Messenger app, according to arrest records.
A Margate Police Department investigation shows that Joshua Lazaro Gonzalez, 27, of Margate, was arrested on November 6 and faces 12 felony counts, including multiple charges of possession of child pornography, transmitting child pornography, and computer pornography involving a minor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began in January when the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received a CyberTip from MediaLab/Kik reporting that a user with identifiers linked to the username “kylelick” had uploaded 40 files containing child pornography. Three of the files involved bestiality, and one involved bondage, investigators wrote.
The CyberTip was forwarded to the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, where a detective from the Margate Police Department began investigating. Records show that subpoenas served on Comcast linked the reported uploads to Gonzalez’s residence on Winfield Boulevard, and additional subscriber information linked him to Shoot Straight, a business in Fort Lauderdale, where one of the listed IP addresses was associated.
Detectives later obtained warrants to search the Kik account, Gonzalez’s home, his vehicle, and any electronic devices in his possession. The affidavit states that investigators recovered the child pornography files originally reported and found additional chat logs in which the user requested “young” content and referenced having “teen with dog.”
Gonzalez was also found in multiple Kik groups with sexually explicit titles involving minors and had exchanged Mega file-storage links commonly used to distribute large quantities of child exploitation materials, according to police.
On November 6, task force members conducted a traffic stop and detained Gonzalez while executing the residential search warrant. Police say he admitted to operating the Kik account, sending child pornography, and saving Mega links containing illegal material on his phone.
A preliminary review of the device revealed “hundreds of files” of child sexual abuse material stored within the links, investigators stated.
Gonzalez was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $60,000 bond.
Authorities say a complete forensic extraction of his devices is pending.
