A man was arrested in Margate after police found him driving a stolen car with two guns inside, court records show.
Vernon Burroughs, 33, had a suspended license on May 11 when Margate Police stopped the gray Range Rover he was driving in the 5000 block of W. Atlantic Blvd., which turned out to have been stolen in Fort Lauderdale in 2020, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police said Burroughs fraudulently registered the stolen SUV in his name using a counterfeit VIN number, records show.
Burroughs, of Fort Lauderdale, is charged with grand theft auto, falsifying a vehicle’s plates or identification number, driving with a suspended license, and driving a vehicle with illegal tints.
Burroughs, who told police he had a firearms permit, was not charged with any crimes for the weapons in the Range Rover, according to the affidavit.
He has pleaded not guilty and is currently free on a $2,000 bond, records show.
