When I walked into Jesse’s Xtreme Sports Bar & Liquor Store in Margate, I had no plans to write a review. I wanted ice-cold Miller Lites and just play the jukebox.
You see, before heading home, I planned to stop by another Margate business and get a sandwich.
All that changed when I saw food being delivered to other guests at Jesse’s Xtreme Sports Bar & Liquor Store. It was Taco Tuesday, and everyone around me was chowing down on beef, chicken, or pork tacos for $2 a piece with $5 margaritas. Shrimp and steak tacos were $3 a piece. The food looked damn good.
I wasn’t in the mood for tacos; my mind was on a cheesesteak. Now, before I go further, let’s discuss the history of this neighborhood pub.
History
Back in the day, Jesse’s Xtreme Sports Bar & Liquor Store was called Gotrocks. The pub’s food was outstanding, with some of Broward’s best wings and cheesesteaks. The owners moved on to a more prominent restaurant in Coconut Creek, and later, this Gotrocks was sold to Jesse and his wife, Jen. It then became Jesse’s Xtreme Sports Bar.
Unlike Gotrocks, a pub trying to be a restaurant, Jesse’s Xtreme Sports Bar was a basic sports pub with pool tables, darts, shuffleboard, and standard bar food. In my opinion, the food was ok but not great.
I still loved the vibe and would occasionally go in to relax and chat with the cool bartenders like Dan and Jen, or Manny, as some folks call her. I also enjoyed speaking to the owners too. Just an outstanding crew!
Ambiance
When I walked in today, I noticed they moved the pool tables to the left side of the bar. On the right were now dining tables. Manny told me they made this change about six months ago.
The place is nonsmoking, clean, and has a great regular customer base.
The Food
Well, after watching all this food being pumped out and looking delicious, I decided to order from here. This ended up being an excellent decision.
I ordered three items, but I will discuss one because it blew me away: the Cheesesteak.
I ordered my Cheesesteak with extra white American Cheese, mushrooms, hot peppers, and onions. The menu states it’s a half pound of meat for $13.00.
My food came, I paid my bill and left.
When I got home and opened the container with my Cheesesteak, I was impressed. The hot peppers, mushrooms, and onions were chopped up small, and the cheese was melted/mixed throughout the meat. It was just the way I liked it.
I picked it up, and it had a nice weight to it. The bread held up well during the drive home. It was not soggy at all. It was just outstanding.
Verdict
I like the vision/direction Jesse’s is traveling down. They have a defined dining area with food specials for kids on Mondays, a $10 all-you-can-eat brunch once a month, and discounted lunch and drink specials daily. Not to mention, they have their liquor store next door.
Drinks are cold and reasonably priced. There is no smoking inside. The outstanding jukebox, many televisions, friendly service, and delicious food make it pretty much a home run for a neighborhood sports bar/grill.
3 Beer Rating for me.
Remember to tell owners Jesse, Jen, GM Lisa, Manny, and Dan AKA Booze, that Dan I Cook and MargateTalk.com sent you and Stay Hungry!
