A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a foot chase and apprehension of a wanted man and a passenger.
On August 1, the Margate Police Department advised all patrolling units of the license plate and description of a vehicle recently reported stolen in Collier County.
According to the arrest report, the vehicle, an F-150 truck, was spotted by an officer, who proceeded to follow the stolen car as it drove through Margate.
The report shows that the driver, later identified as Ronnie Baker, 38, of North Lauderdale, was also known to be wanted on active warrants in Broward County.
Police officers followed Baker as he traveled on Rock Island Road and made a westbound turn onto Southgate Boulevard.
Records of the chase show Baker made several turns in an attempt to evade capture and that the pursuit continued through Margate and into North Lauderdale.
After a brief chase, Baker turned into a dead-end street on Southwest 7th Place, where he and a passenger, later identified as Jahrod Walker, 26, of Lauderhill, abandoned the truck and fled on foot, jumped a fence, and ran through multiple backyards.
With the help of K-9 units, both Baker and Walker were captured on the property of a resident.
Baker and Walker were transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where they both remain held without bond.
Baker is charged with grand theft auto, evading arrest, and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges stemming from a previous warrant.
For his part, Walker faces trespassing and fleeing arrest charges.
