North Broward Prep’s 2020 graduate Alex Villas officially announced his commitment to attend the University of Delaware.

Alex played his freshman season at Stetson University and decided to transfer for his redshirt sophomore season.

“Having the opportunity to play Division 1 football in the CAA is a true blessing,” said Alex. “It definitely is rewarding, and you remember all the hard work you put in, but you also know that you’re one step closer to the NFL, and you have to handle your business to get there.”

Alex began playing football in fourth grade but stopped playing after eighth grade. However, after transferring to North Broward Prep for his senior year, Alex seemed to play and loved every second of it.

He caught 25 passes for 353 yards and four touchdowns during his lone year on varsity while rushing for 134 yards and two scores. Alex also had 478 yards on kickoff returns, scoring two touchdowns, a long return of 96 yards, and 17 tackles on defense.

In his freshman season, Alex recorded 33 tackles at Stetson and then decided to transfer to Delaware for this upcoming season.

“The academics and campus are second to none with such a supportive fan base,” said Villas. “The coaching staff is amazing. You can feel their hunger and passion for winning and growing their players into better men.”

He is thankful to his parents, Catherine and Alsone Villas, Gayle and Tim Taylor, for believing in him and his ability, and Coach Bernal of NBP for helping him on and off the field. He also had a great relationship with his roommate C.J. Davis.

Alex is set to join a program that has produced Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Flacco. The Blue Hens finished one win shy of being bowl eligible last season and will open the season at Navy on September 3.

“He has a great future ahead of him and I think he will make Delaware a better team and definitely has a chance to possibly be playing after college,” said North Broward Head Coach Rex Nottage.
