The Calypso Cove pool is now open to Margate residents only.
It has taken some time after a fire in the parking lot on June 9 delayed the opening, but now the pool is open with some limitations.
According to the city, the pool is now open daily until August 11: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It will be open on weekends only from August 17 to September 29.
Residents can enjoy the slide, but the activity center is closed for now.
According to Vice Mayor Arlene Schwartz, Calypso Cove suffered a significant loss after the fire destroyed pieces of a water slide and other materials to be used in a substantial pool renovation. The fire was considered spontaneous combustion after the plastic wrap covering the slide pieces, combined with water, heated up to a point where it started a blaze.
“It was very unfortunate that there was a fire, but I am glad the pool is now open to city residents. We hope to replace the destroyed slide parts, and the vendor’s insurance covered it,” said Schwartz.
Calypso Cove features three pools: a plunge pool with enclosed and open slides, a zero-depth pool with a play structure, and a six-lane lap pool. The deck area offers lawn chairs and umbrellas for sun protection.
Calypso Cove is located at 6200 Royal Palm Boulevard.
