Let the games begin!
On March 1, Margate hosted an opening day celebration for youth athletes participating in spring sports at the Margate Sports Complex.
All the players participated in a parade, and each baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer team was recognized. The family party included bounce houses, hot dogs, chips for the players, and a chance for parents to socialize.
Margate Athletics aims to teach children basic athletic skills and to have fun.
“I want to develop a sense of unity and family on our team. We will win and lose together,” said Brandon McHardy, who coaches the Wolves basketball team for 5–7-year-olds.
Josh Vest, who coaches T-ball, wants to teach the fundamentals of the game.
“I want the kids to learn the basics of T-ball so they can go on to play baseball. I want them to have a positive experience,” said Vest.

According to Edwin Almanzar, who coaches “Major League” baseball for 11–13-year-olds, kids should exercise and learn baseball. “Kids must run around and practice baseball, so they became better at the game,” he said.
Some of the young athletes will go on to play high school or college sports. Most will learn to play on a team and make some new friends.
