Several streets in Tamarac will be getting aesthetically pleasing buffer walls as part of the City’s overall corridor study with the Woodlands set to be installed the fall of this year.
The design was initialized in January, and the wall should be completed in September 2016, said Maxine Calloway, Director of the Community Development Department this week.
This project consists of the design and permitting of the Citywide Buffer Wall Project, Phase IIB, which includes approximately 5,900 linear feet of a precast system buffer wall, together with associated landscaping and irrigation improvements. Phase IIB will include buffer walls on the north and south sides of Commercial Boulevard, between NW 64th Avenue and Rock Island Road. The design elements for this task include; concrete foundations, retaining walls, concrete columns and precast wall panels, together with associated landscaping, and irrigation improvements.
The wall that be installed in front of the Woodlands Country Club Section Two will be 3,200 lineal feet long and run from NW 64th Ave to the edge of the residential homes where the lake begins  – before the front entrance. It will replace a partial wall that has been damaged and repaired many times – and at the present time sits damaged. The new wall will have a mix of wall types: 6 foot columns with fence and custom 6 foot masonry.
The second wall which be installed in front of the homes north the Woodlands along Commercial Boulevard and obscure parts of the dilapidated fencing belonging to homeowners bordering the street. A few years ago, Podocarpus hedges were installed by the City in some parts of the wall, which requires irrigation and upkeep. This wall will be solid six foot masonry wall.
More walls will be installed throughout the City in future projects. Â Stay posted for more news here.
