Neal Persten has a passion for pizza and for helping others.
As the owner of Big Daddy’s Pizza and Subs, he has provided pizza to local hospitals and first responders.
At the November 20 meeting, the Margate Commission recognized Persten as Small Business Person of the Year for his efforts.
“I have operated this restaurant since 2006. I work every day and put in 70 to 90 hours a week,” said Persten.
To help needy families, Persten will serve turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
“I am doing this because I want to help people in the community,” said Persten.
Commissioner Tommy Ruzzano presented Persten with the award and said he is a good personal friend who has done many positive things in the community.
According to Ruzzano, Big Daddy’s was one of the few restaurants open during Hurricane Sally in 2020, encouraging residents to buy from Margate’s stores and restaurants –especially on Small Business Saturday,.
Mayor Arlene Schartz said Persten has made a positive difference in the community and deserves recognition.
Those who want the Thanksgiving meal must contact Big Daddy’s at 954-971-0810.
Big Daddy’s is located at 407 North State Road 7.
The hours are Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
