It’s that time again when our Canadian friends are making the trek south to experience the best of South Florida.
It’s almost like clockwork: Daylight savings time ends, the weather feels a bit cooler and suddenly a parade of out-of-state license plates make their annual pilgrimage here.
Our snowbird friends are extremely vital for the survival of the Woodlands Country Club. Back in April, Canadian company ClubLink purchased the club and with that, gives all their members access to 50 18-hole equivalent championship courses at 42 locations, primarily in Florida, Ontario and Quebec.
By offering members reciprocal golf course access, snowbirds no longer have to buy a separate golf membership to play in the Woodlands for the short time they are here. Membership with ClubLink entitles them to play anywhere they choose. This also includes the newly purchased Heron Bay Golf Club in Parkland.
Our returning snowbirds will be in for a treat when they return to the improved golf course conditions on the East Course, and soon, a newly renovated West Course.
According to ClubLink Communications Director John Gordon, “So far we have received some very positive feedback. Members have commented on how impressed they are with how quickly ClubLink moved in to improve the course conditions.”
This season, Woodlands residents will also see more tournament action on the courses with the upcoming ClubLink International Pro-Am at the end of this month and the famous Dixie Amateur tournament in December at both the Woodlands and Heron Bay.
Next time you see cars driving through with Canadian plates, or even hear French spoken around the golf course, don’t forget to wave and say “Bienvenue!”
Our Canadian friends are the lifeblood of the Woodlands, albeit, for six months.
