More Tamarac Parks are going up in the west side of town, yet nothing is planned for the east side of Tamarac. Meanwhile, the city’s last piece of open space, Sabal Palms and Monterrey Golf Courses, still sit empty and neglected. This is potential land that can be used by the City of Tamarac for a beautiful park or even a city-owned golf course. If only the city would only take the lead from the Town of Davie and the City of Pembroke Pines, who are buying golf courses in their hometowns.
This park on near the Capparella Aquatic Center west of Pine Island was originally going to be the skateboard park. No funding has been identified as to the type of park it will be now.
According to Shawn Denton, public services director for the City of Pembroke Pines, the city is applying for a $1.4 million grant from the Florida Communities Trust and that the money would be used to create walking paths, build a nature center with classroom space, and offer recreational amenities such as canoeing and picnic grounds on Raintree Golf Course. The Town of Davie, which tries to maintain their “open space” surroundings, has just agreed to the purchase of Arrowhead Golf Course for $4.6 million on March 2nd. The town will put out a contract for a company to maintain the golf course. Read more in the Sun-Sentinel.
Meanwhile, the City of Tamarac has two golf courses that are abandoned and neglected. The homes that border them look out to a wasteland of white plastic sewer connections that was once beautiful views behind them. Temporary chain link fences are neglected as well. Unfortunately, this is the first view one has of the City of Tamarac when exiting the Turnpike.
Read the earlier post below about the east side of Tamarac needing parks. Let’s remind our city representatives that residents in the east should not be forgotten. We must demand consideration for a more equal distribution of parks on both sides of the city.
