There is very little North Broward Prep’s Jonathan Xuereb can’t do on a baseball field, and it showed by helping North Broward win their second straight State Championship.

He is now set to play college baseball at Appalachian State in North Carolina. After playing at Calvary Christian to start his varsity career, Xuereb transferred to NBP before his senior year. Not only did he go 3-0 on the mound and record two saves, but he also hit .388 with six home runs, 24 RBIs, and 16 extra-base hits.

“The State Championship is the result of the journey,” said Xuereb. “The good result comes when the team works together and endures through trials and failures. Whatever you do, do it in excellence and do it without grumbling.”

Xuereb started playing baseball when he was four years old and moved from New Jersey to Boca Raton when he was seven. He started playing for the West Boca Panthers a week after moving. He also competed in my league before settling with the Hitmen for five years.

Xuereb previously was homeschooled before playing for Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale. After going through three coaches in four years, he played at NBP for his final season, where he says he was welcomed in by both the players and coaches.

“I think Xuereb is one of the most underrated players in the Tri-County area,” said Head Coach Brian Campbell. “If you ask me, he is a college coach’s dream. I would hope he steps on campus and makes an impact right away. He was a huge piece of the puzzle for our success this year.”

Despite the pandemic during most of the recruiting process, Xuereb and his family picked a couple of strong schools athletically and academically. Then, after seeing the way Head Coach Kermit Smith ran his program, Xuerub was able to make his decision.

He is set to play for a team that went 20-33 and has won at least 20 games in every complete season since 2019. There have been seven Appalachian State players that have played in the MLB.
