A woman was arrested for resisting officers and obstruction after repeatedly interfering with a domestic violence investigation into her sister.
On April 13, the Margate Police Department responded to a report of a domestic violence incident that had taken place near the 5700 block of Lakeside Drive.
According to the arrest report, when officers arrived, they began a domestic violence investigation into a woman, later identified as Precious Kaniyah Hicks, 21, who had allegedly been the aggressor in an incident with her boyfriend.
According to the report, Precious Hicks had allegedly cut the victim’s hand while attempting to cut the tire of his car with a kitchen knife.
The report states while officers were attempting to complete the investigation, Precious Hicks sister, later identified as Prestina Kayla Hicks, 23, of Pompano Beach, continually tried to walk into the scene, refusing the officer’s requests to step back.
Officers alleged in the report that Prestina repeatedly ignored their commands to exit the scene, and continued interfering with the investigation, causing officers to demand that she step back or face arrest.
The report says Prestina ignored the officer’s final warning and, as they attempted to take her into custody, attempted to roll away from them when they tried to handcuff her.
As the situation escalated, officers allege Prestina kicked an officer in the face and tried to strike him with the handcuffs as a weapon. Eventually, Prestina had to be physically lifted and placed into the patrol car.
According to the arrest report, Prestina continued to ignore the officer’s requests even while in custody, refusing to provide officers with her information, leading to an additional obstruction charge.
Officers wrote in the report that Prestina also threatened to return to the incident scene and physically fight her sister’s victim.
Both Precious and Prestina Hicks were arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Prestina was released after posting a $500 bail.
